Basal metabolic rate (Mifflin-St Jeor / Katch-McArdle)

Your basal metabolic rate is the calories your body burns at complete rest — the floor of your daily energy needs. People search for it specifically when they want the resting number, separate from activity.

How this is calculated

BMR — Mifflin-St Jeor (1990, default):

  • Men: BMR = 10·kg + 6.25·cm − 5·age + 5
  • Women: BMR = 10·kg + 6.25·cm − 5·age − 161

BMR — Katch-McArdle (when body-fat % is provided): BMR = 370 + 21.6 · LBM where LBM = weight × (1 − BF%/100).
